About Pugs
62
Pugs are a breed of dog that are small and compact. As
a matter of fact, they are considered to be in the toy size of dog breeds. They
started in China,
but they have since spread around the world. These were bred to be the
lap dogs of royalty. Not much has changed as far as their demeanor.
They love to be loved, and they love to be spoiled. They will gladly take
their places on the laps of their masters, and as a matter of fact, they are so
peaceful, that their owners have to make sure that these dogs are getting
enough exercise. This is also because the dogs are so small and
compact. While other toy dogs are not only small, but lean, the pug is
small, and compact. They will look like they have the potential to be
medium sized dogs, but they are quite short, and they don't have long bodies.
What they do have is a lot of folds in their skin. These folds of skin
create the potential for lots of fat to build up. Obesity is certainly a
problem for this breed of dog. They don't have long, strong legs either
like other breeds of dogs. So their masters will find that the dogs will
waddle instead of running. Still, these dogs can be exercise. They
just won't be able to sprint and keep up lean strong legs like other dog breeds.
Pugs make great traveling dogs because they are so small and compact. It
will be very easy to find a carrier for these types of dogs. The dog
owner won't have to worry about not being able to find a carrier large enough,
or with putting the dog carrier in the cargo department because of its
size. Especially in cars and on buses, the carrier for the pug is small
enough to ride alongside the owner.
Pugs are great dogs to have around children. This is because they are friendly
and loving. They are playful, so they will make great mates for children.
While one should never leave a dog of any breed around infants, older toddlers
and young children can certainly play safely with this dog. The dog will
want to roll around the floor with the children, and they love to be held,
hugged, and tickled. It would probably be a good idea to encourage children to
play fetch or ball with this dog, so that it can get its exercise.
Pugs don't vary in their appearance. They are an ivory to bone color, with
black faces. They aren't expensive, and they are prized by many
individuals and families. As with any dog breed, make sure that you
aren't buying puppies or dogs from a puppy mill. Read up on how to care
for your Pug. Make sure that you have everything ready to bring your Pug home.
Although the Pug is very small and friendly, it will still need obedience, and
socialization training.
