There was a time when bedding for the dog consisted of a rug or a mattress on the floor. However, times and changed and so have dog beds.

If you live in a region where the mercury falls below freezing point, then opt for dog beds which will keep the dog warm. If necessary, opt for beds which have artificial heating equipment inbuilt in them
If you live in relatively warmer regions, opt for those beds which will keep Tom, Tim or Roger cool.
Just as we do not restrict the use of beds to sleeping alone, your pet dog too will include the bed it likes into its lifestyle. Your dog may prefer chewing on a juicy bone in the comfortable and secure confines of its bed.
While you may train your dog to keep eatables away from its bed, you have to be prepared for the eventuality of clearing eatables off your dog bed. Make your choice according.
When purchasing a dog bed, do consider the option of adding accessories to the bed. If your dog sleeps on a cot, then you may want to attach Velcro straps to the bed as this will enable you to strap your pet dog into the bed.
Do keep an eye on the price of the dog bed you choose. Today, people include their pets in their good and bad times. A rich person will secure a rich lifestyle for his dog.

When our dog was a puppy we got her two different beds but she enjoyed ripping out the stuffing. We now let her sleep on the couch. But, only when everyone else is asleep and no one else is on it. Maybe we will try a another bed now that she is older. She never chewed up anything else just her bed and her toys. Thanks for the great ideas.
