There’s nothing like a bright new year to start your life challenges and goal setting and accomplishing all over again. So why not start afresh with a new friend, too, a best friend, a canine! Known as man’s best friend, the right dog can be a blessing, a true companion to you, even it is a bit silly like the one in the Marley and Me movie that’s just come out at theatres everywhere.

You might not want to start with that movie before you search for the best dog for you. However, if you have a great sense of humor, go ahead and start with the movie. Check it out, enjoy some wonderful scenes and shed some tears at the end (shhh…don’t tell everyone what happens here!) Or pick up a copy of the show as it becomes available at Amazon.com, Blockbuster.com or eBay.com.

Get a New Dog Tips

Begin your dog search at the public library or here online, finding out about different dog breeds and which would be best for your family, your home and you. You want a dog that is the right size for the space you have, one with a temperament suitable for everyone in your home, and one that is either active or inactive to be compatible with your lifestyle.

Seek help from the local librarian for books on dog breeds. Search Amazon.com for books, and eBay and other online stores. And check out online content like our Hubpages here, ones targeted for different breeds.

Dog Tips

When you think you’re ready to start searching for a dog, here are some tips:

1) First make sure your budget will be able to handle the added family member because you’ll need dog food , accessories like a collar, leash, treats (a must!) and license plus vet visits and any shots and other health, safety and other living needs met.

2) Make sure you’ll have a place for your new friend to sleep. Many like dog beds that you can pick up at local pet stores or even often cheaper online, having them delivered right to your home.

3) Check out available pets from the local Humane Society chapter near you and other dog rescues. Most have websites to check photos and seek info before you leave home.

Enjoy your best friend! Snap photos and share them in Hubpages here with us :)
