There are a variety of behavior problems that can come up with dogs. From excessive barking to biting it can happen with pet pooches. You might be struggling with these problems with your dog in fact. But, did you know that most of these behaviors can be prevented? It is true, read on to see how to avoid these dog behavior problems...

Excessive Barking

Excessive barking can be a big behavior problem especially if you live in a neighborhood. The neighbors will not like having to hear your dog yapping all the time. This problem is normally caused from the dog being bored though or left unattended for too long.

Take issue with your dog barking and divert its attention from doing it. There are even collars that will help you train the dog not to bark. However, you want it to bark if danger is sensed. So reward the good times it barks and discourage the wrong times. Spend enough time with the dog instead of leaving it to its own entertainment too.

Not Playing Well with Others

When your dog does not get along at all with other dogs this is a socialization problem. If your dog was not socialized as a puppy, it can have trouble being around other dogs as it gets older. This can also hold true with people too. Puppies should be exposed to the humans they will be around a lot enough to feel comfortable with them.

Digging

Does your dog have the behavior problem of digging all the time? This can be rough on you and your yard. Dogs can dig for a variety of reasons. Sometimes they have buried a bone to chew on later and digging it up. Other times it is an inbred instinct for dogs to burrow. They can also dig out of boredom. If you don't mind the holes in your backyard you might just choose to ignore this problem.

However, if it is a problem, one thing you can do is make your dogs a dig spot of their own. Plant treats or toys in a sectioned-off area of soft dirt or sand. This is similar to what you do for a child's sandbox. If you see the dog digging somewhere you don't want it to, just get the dog to go to its area to dig. It will soon learn where it should dig. This is a great method for teaching the dog not to dig up your yard.

Biting

Biting is not a problem you want with your dog at all. This bad habit can get people hurt as well as other pets. From an early age you need to teach your dog it is not good to bite. Correct your pup firmly when they are biting. Do not engage in aggressive play with dogs, this will teach them to be more aggressive. Always praise when the dog quits biting. Your dog will soon learn it is better not to bite.

Follow the tips above and your dog will be better behaved. If you cannot succeed at teaching your dog good manners on your own, there is always obedience school to help you. This school can help you learn how to better train your dog.
