Dog Boots, Coats, Sweaters and Other Apparel for Winter
55
Dogs get cold just like people do in winter! So make sure to dress them up for the season, if you live in a cold climate area using any of a variety of dog clothes for all types of budget ranges. Popular types of clothing that can work in cool to cold climates include coats and jackets, paw wear, sweat shirts and sweaters, outdoor wear.
Coats and Jackets
For those dogs with think hair and / or those in very cold climates, dog coats and jackets may be just what these canines need. Choose form hefty parkas to all-weather reversible jackets, capes and vests, with hoods of without.
Measure your dog from its neck to the end of its back for the best fit. Chart sizes generally cover the following measurements:
XXsmall - up to 6 inches
extra small – 6 to 8 inches
small – 8 to 12 inches
medium – 12 to 16 inches
large – 16 to 20 inches
extra large – 20 – 24 inches
XXlarge – 24 to 30 inches
Estimate with a little room to grow. Or a lot, if the dog is very young.
Paw Wear
Pick up some sporty dog boots or even just doggie slippers, if your climate is cool and not wet. Slippers are nice inside on cold wintery nights, fun fashions to go with designer dog clothing, even.
Choose types with non-slip soles. And when sizing, measure with dog standing, sizing from the front edge of the dog’s small pads to the back edge of the larger pad, excluding nails.
Sweat Shirts and Sweaters
Find fun, fancy sweaters and shirts, hooded and without hoods, that go mainly across the back, some covering the belly, too. Choose a size larger than you think you’ll need for large boned or heavyset dogs.
Outdoor Wear
In addition to the above apparel, your dog may benefit from doggie sunglasses, a carryall bag like for service working dogs, where the bag is snuggly belted around their middles with pouches for carrying your money, keys and other small items. You may also choose a vest to go with other apparel for that extra protection from the cold, indoors and out.
