Elevated Dog Feeders Are Healthier for Your Dog
68Baron Heavy Duty Dog Feeder
None of us want to eat off the floor. Did you ever think that your dog may prefer to eat with their food a bit higher? It's possible that you will find it an easier job for both you and your best friend.
Any dog with arthritis or other joint issue may benefit from the use of elevated dog feeders. Getting the food in a better position for their eating can alleviate a lot of the pain of bending over and can also prevent major drips from the water. That plus the fact that many of the feeders have rubber pads on the bottom will prevent you from picking up the bowl ten feet from where it started.
Any dog that has had an amputation of a front limb will benefit greatly by having their food elevated. Also a skid proof bottom will help. Their efforts to eat don't have to be as valiant as they are with a bowl that slides along the floor with every mouthful.
Healthy, happy dogs can benefit as well. Less gulping of the food will help to prevent things such as bloat, which can be life threatening or mega esophagus. In the condition referred to as mega esophagus, the food does not go into the stomach but stays in the esophagus. You may see that your dog will eat more slowly if the food is conveniently located.
Keeping the food off the floor or the ground is also more sanitary. Cleanliness in the feeding areas can also prevent some unpleasant conditions.
Designs of fancy elevated dog feeders range from plastic one piece units, to designer sets with two removable stainless bowls that can be washed easily. A quick search on the internet will show you a selection to match your home décor. There are those that are adjustable. You will pay a price for that convenience and chances are that you won't be adjusting very much if your dog is fully grown.
A dog such as a Great Dane needs a taller feeding station. When they are puppies, they will need one that may go up to a twelve inch level, but as adults they will need to go higher. This can be very costly if you are not a craftsman. On the other hand, you can find a five gallon bucket with a lid, just about anywhere. If you cut a hole in the lid that is large enough to hold the bowl, you can use the bucket as both a feeding station and a place for food storage. Be sure the bucket is weighted with something or you will have a mess on your hands.
If you have health problems such as arthritis or back and neck issues, having an elevated feeding station that suits your dog can be helpful for you as well. You won't have to bend over as far to place the heavy bowl on the floor if it is elevated. Benefits run the full circle as far as elevated dishes are concerned. Just take your time and choose the right one for your best friend.
