Owning a dog is a huge commitment you need ensure that you look after your dog well and this takes several different elements. Not only do you need to ensure that your dog has food and water but also exercise and love are essential too. Although all dogs need some form of exercise it depends on the type of dog and its age too how much you give it. It is very unhealthy for dogs not too exercise at all and in active dogs can get very ill as they will get fatter and medical conditions can then happen. If you ensure that your dog is receiving regular exercise you will be helping it to remain healthy, fit and have a good life.

Dogs which are fit and healthy tend to be more alert and content, lazy and unhealthy dogs are far unhappier. Your dog needs regular walks to keep it fit, although the distance should vary depending on how fit your dog is. Dogs love spending time with you and it is an ideal way for you to bond with your dog. Dogs have great fun in big open spaces they can run around and really let their legs stretch and it is a great time to play catch and teach your dog some training at the same time. Playing fetch is a great game which allows you to sit and rest, whilst your dog is getting some exercise. If you take their favorite ball or toy then this will encourage your dog to bring it back on command. They will not only be keeping fit but also teaching them discipline as well. You must however allow your dog to rest in between games, although exercise is great you can over do it and this might be a problem for your dog.

Regular exercise helps to tone your dog's heart, which strengthens his immune system and keeps him healthy. Your dog is less likely to be sick as he will be in prime condition and they will socialize better with other dogs and sleep better. Restless dogs can also be a pain at home, when dogs are restless they can be destructive which means they can cause damage to your house. A calm dog is much better to live with, and keeping your dog well exercised will ensure that all elements of his behavior is improved.

You can always take your dog with you when you are out doing your normal exercise routine, he can join you when you are jogging, cycling or even swimming. You dog will happily run alongside your bike when you are cycling and this will give you both a workout, always adjust your speed to ensure that your dog is keeping up. As long as you are being sensible and teach your dog which side of the bike is safe to run alongside this is a great way for you both to exercise. On hot days swimming is ideal for both of you, your dog will really appreciate being cooled down and will be exercising at the same time. On cold days, you can dress your dog in fleece dog coats or jackets to keep them warmer. Whatever methods you use to exercise your dog you will see the benefits immediately and will be helping your loved one to have a much longer healthier life.

Really great ideas for exercising with your dog.You said your dog will happily run along beside your bike while you ride.Sigh......You are so lucky, to have an obedient dog. I can't say the same for my dog and me.I gave up long ago.

Sweetie Pie will run as far away as she can if we get on the road for biking, walking, etc.(She was a shelter dog, and I susupect that is how she got there, as a runaway!)She follows me everywhere in the house, and I walk her on the leash, so hopefully she is getting enough activity.

Again, a great hub!
