Foods to Avoid For Your Pets
63
We've all heard it. Dog food is for dogs and people food is for people and you shouldn't mix the two. Even your vet is going to tell you that's total crap. What exactly is people food and why is it people food? Dogs in the wild don't eat kibble, they eat meat.
They like other things but their primary diet is raw meat, folks. In many cases the veterinarians who are newer and have studied new tactics are recommending a raw diet. The reality is that your dog so long as he gets a good balanced diet and plenty of exercise is not going to suffer from a little bit of "people" food now and again.
Kong chew toys promote doggie cheese to fill them, as well as ravioli and many other treats that your dog is going to absolutely love. Now these are not a solid diet and they are certainly not a replacement for real balanced dog food. Those are the things that will permit your dog to clean his teeth and to keep his bones and joints and kidneys healthy. The reality is though, that despite what many will tell you, taking a few pieces of chicken or a cut of meat for your dog is a healthy thing to do.
Your pooch won't suffer from a handout so long as its balanced and you don't
try to use higher salt and higher fat foods to actually feed them instead of a
well balanced diet. Don't forget to keep your dog food sealed in dry dog food storage containers so it stays fresh longer.
There are however some foods that you should not include in your dogs diet. Large or small, your dog and/or cat have a few problems with some kinds of food and paying attention to those restrictions will assure that your best friend stays healthy far longer.
Chocolate is not a food that dogs should be given at any time. The caffeine isn't healthy for them and the reality is that in a smaller dog it can actually kill them. If you're tempted to give your pet chocolate... well don't.
Bones such as the larger knuckle bones aren't bad and in fact don't splinter nearly as much as some of the rawhide bones may do. Chicken and turkey bones are simply not things that you ever want to give to your pet.
Grapes are poor choices for your pet because they can damage the kidneys of your friend and raisins present the same problem. We tend to think of grapes as something very healthy for us so that we assume it would be the same for our pets, Unfortunately that's not the case at all.
Onions too can present problems for our pets. While a few probably won't hurt, when taken in a larger amount, the pet can become anemic from these and so they should be avoided all together.
