Preventing Problems With Your Dog And The Car

We all use cars so much these days and often live in towns and cities where you will want to escape into the country some days. If you want to take your dog with you on these trips then you will need to ensure that they know how to behave in the car. There can be some big problems with dogs and cars, and these can put people off letting their dogs in their car. If you solve the problems then you will enjoy taking your dog with you.

There are very common problems that your dog may suffer from while in your car, these are nervousness, over excitement, sickness, barking and aggression. Many of these can be linked to be worried about the journey, and you can easily help with that problem. If your dog feels worried or unsafe then they will become stressed and this can cause sickness and aggressive behavior. You need to reassure your dog that they are safe and secure. A moving vehicle can be a strange feeling to a dog, and they may feel that they are not in control even though they are.

One way to make your dog feel safer is to place them in a dog seat belt. These are not only great to keep your dog from jumping around but they can also make them feel more secure. If you are to stop suddenly or have an accident then your dog will be very frightened. This feeling can make your dog become aggressive towards the people trying to help them.  Once they feel that they are snug against the seat and that every movement won't make them fall off your dog will be more relaxed. They won't tend to feel car sick now as they are kept in one position, and the whole journey is a better experience.

Make sure that you roll down the window, dogs love to feel the air and even though they might not be able to stick their heads out of the window. They will be able to feel the air and this will relax them, bring along their chew toys although don't choose squeaky ones as these can be distracting for you as you are driving along. If you are going on a long journey then ensure you stop regularly for water and toilet breaks and to allow your dog to stretch his legs.

The more enjoyable you make the journey the more relaxed your dog will be, and this will make the whole car journey a pleasure. You, your passengers and the dog will be safely in the dog seat belt restraint and you know in the event of an accident everyone will be safe. Ensure that you reward your dog once the car has stopped, dogs react very well to rewards. This is often the best way to train a dog as they remember the treat and will behave well in the future. A good journey with your dog will mean that you will take them out more, and the more often you take them in the car the less excited they will be. The journeys will just become part of everyday life and your dog will be excellent every time.
