The Schnoodle

The Schnoodle is a Poodle hybrid that has been developed by crossing a Poodle with a Schnauzer.

This breed is now recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club, Dog Registry of America, and the Canadian Kennel Club.  The popularity of Schnoodles has increased over recent years, as individuals are searching for a companion that is hypoallergenic, and easy to train.  It is important to note that Schnoodles are as likely to be hypoallergenic as not, because of the combination of the two different breeds having a changeable outcome.

Correctly speaking, the offspring of a Schnoodle and any other dog is a mongrel.  In fact, the American Kennel Club, and others alike, state that any dog, including a Schnoodle, that is the offspring of dogs that are two different breeds, are in actual fact mongrels.

A Schnoodle puppy can have the same coat characteristics of each of its parent breeds, such as developing the coarse/wiry, rough coat of the Schnauzer, or the softer coat of a Poodle.  It is also possible for the Schnoodle to develop the coarser type hair of the Schnauzer on particular areas of the body such as the back, and have other areas on their body which is like the coat of a Poodle.  The various colors of the Schnoodles coat include black, grey, white, brown, and apricot.

Puppies of the same litter can even have different coat qualities and may or may not aggravate allergies.   The fur of this breed doesn't shed excessively, but it does grow like human hair.  Therefore, it requires grooming and brushing every 2 to 3 months to ensure that matting doesn't become a problem.

Schnoodles, as with Poodles, will develop a large amount of in-the-ear hair.  It is important that a vet or a groomer removes this hair in order to prevent ear infections.  The Schnoodle may need to have their anal glands expressed a few times a year.  This can be performed by either a vet or a groomer.

The Schnoodles size can vary depending on the size of the parents.  The typical weight of this breed is between 11 and 16 pounds.  For a smaller Schnoodle, a Toy Poodle can be mixed with a Miniature Schnauzer, which will result in a Toy Schnoodle.  Of course, on the other hand, the Schnoodle can be rather large when Standard Poodles are mixed with Standard or Giant Schnauzers.

The Schnoodle has the intelligence of the Poodle and the devotion and companionship of the Schnauzer.  Schnoodles are an extremely smart breed.  For instance, they can react very strongly only by the owner simply glancing at the floor or their shoes, or the sound of keys jangling, as the Schnoodle knows that this is a sign of their owner leaving the home for some reason.  This intelligence, along with the terrier desire to please its owner, results in most Schnoodles being easily trained with the use of organic dog treats

The Schnoodle has a rather impressive vocabulary, considering that they are easily able to learn phrases such as "go and fetch your dog toys."  There are certain Schnoodles that pick up the Schnauzer-type habit of nipping at things.  However, they are not attracted to chewing on furniture.  Whilst the Schnoodle is mischievous, they are energetic, fun-loving dogs.

Oh my, the Schnoodle is an adorable dog with an adorable name. I've never seen one of these, but that photo is simply too precious. Cheers!
