Traveling with Your Dog and His Treat Jar
65
Vacation time is fun for everyone. It is even better when you can take your pet with you. It is also important to keep as many routines and times as regular as you can when you are away from home. It may not seem like a necessity to take that dog treat jar with you, but think about it for a minute. What is your dog's reaction to you when you approach that jar and reach in for a treat? I will be you have a well behaved pup at that moment.
It is not necessary to take a human sized cookie jar with you on a trip. While they may not be jars, there are treat holder that you can wear on your belt. They dispense the treats one at a time and as your dog gets more familiar with them, the reaction will be the same as you reaching for a cookie from his cookie jar at home.
Vacations are fun. They are also tiring if you don't plan well or go somewhere that pets aren't welcome. If you need to kennel your dog while you are away on vacation, you may see if the boarding kennel will allow you to bring things the dog is familiar with along with them. A ceramic dog treat jar could be on that list. You may not be dispensing the treats but chances are your dog will have a happy tail when the boarding kennel folks take one out of the jar and present it to him for being a good puppy.
Using some type of dog treat jar on a trip is not that difficult. It can be a temporary vessel such as a plastic jar with a screw on lid. It can be a piece of your plastic ware that packs easily. Most dog treats you buy will last a long time in any container. If you make your own, you may have to dry them out a little more than usual if you are going to be gone for a prolonged period of time. Just be sure you take that dog treat jar with you.
Planning your vacation is fun. Living your vacation is even more fun. It can be just as much fun for your pet as it is for you if you plan. If you are going to a major theme park, you may have to leave your pet at home with a friend, family member or at a kennel. If you are going camping, most campgrounds will allow pets but they must be restrained either by leash or exercise pens. Not everyone at the campground loves dogs.
Pack up your bathing suits, your toys and your dog and don't forget that dog treat jar. Keep your dog secure in your vehicle, be sure your hotel is accepting pets and have fun. Not all hotels allow dogs and some charge extra for pets depending on size. Take your time and choose carefully. Just don't forget that rewarding dog treat jar to be sure everyone is happy.
