What Not to Feed Your Dog

Pet owners often fall for their dog's begging, and this is especially true when it comes to table scraps. The truth is that dogs love people food. It is normal for dogs to beg for food at the table, and while some food is fine to give your pup other foods should be absolutely avoided. The truth is that certain people foods can pose great health risks to your dog and can even lead to death. The key is to know which foods you should avoid slipping your pup under the table.

Most people have heard that you should avoid giving your dog chocolate, but many of those people do not head that warning. Chocolate is actually very dangerous for dogs to eat. The chocolate itself causes the dogs heart to accelerate, and even beat irregularly. If left unchecked this can lead to your dog suffering from a seizure or even a heart attack. Additionally, in dogs, chocolate can cause vomiting and diarrhea. If you worry that your dog may have eaten some chocolate you should immediately take them to your closest animal hospital.

A lot of people realize that onions can be quite harmful if ingested by a dog. While humans like to add onions to a lot of foods if a dog ingests onions the onion can actually start to breakdown the red blood cells of a dog. When the red blood cells start to break down that compromises how your dog can process oxygen in his system. This means that the oxygen will not travel throughout the dogs system properly and that may lead to your dog experiencing severe vomiting or diarrhea. Additionally, your dog may start to exhibit a fever, exhaustion, and even a loss of appetite. Not all dogs struggle with onions this way, but you should always keep an eye out for these symptoms as they can develop over time.

Alcohol should never be given to a dog. Most people would never think of doing this, but there are some irresponsible dog owners who think that it will be funny to see their dog drunk. The truth is that a dogs system is not at all equipped to have alcohol in their systems. In fact, dogs can fall victim to alcohol poisoning very easily. Not only can they develop digestive problems due to the ingestion of alcohol, but it can even lead to death.

If you are a baker you may like to make bread, but you need to be careful that you don't slip your dog a bite of the dough. Bread dough is soft and easy for a dog to swallow, but as it enters their system the dog's body heat will start to activate the dough so that it begins to rise. When this happens your dog may start to severely bloat and vomit.

While feeding your dog some scraps from the table is okay you do need to be careful about what you slip them. If you know what you can and cannot give your dog then you may safely slip them a treat while also maintaining their safety.  Feeding your pup by using adjustable dog feeders will aid in digestion and allow him or her to feed at a height that they are comfortable with.  You can find these online at ohmydogsupplies.com.
