You will know the signs that your dog is unwell before anyone else and recognizing the signs and symptoms of illnesses is important.
Noticing small changes in your dog's health and behavior is very important, changes like depression, sleeplessness, lack of appetite and trembling. These can all be signs that your dog is suffering from some sort of pain, and pain relief might be needed. Learning what medicinal and natural types of pain relief is available for your dog is important. You will want to help your un-well dog, and the research may save you from an expensive vet's bill.
For you to fully understand what is available for your dog and how to administer it is essential as there are several different types of pain relief for dogs. Although some vets don't agree with the idea of giving dogs pain relief at all. They feel that if your dog is free of pain they will recover slower and may even do more damage to themselves whilst trying to recover. If your vet does agree to some form of pain relief then it will be a type of pain killer or anti inflammatory drugs as they are better known.
The drug that your dog will be given is anti inflammatory these are often non steroidal. They will include rimadyl which is usually prescribed for people with arthritis. They can help your dog if they suffer from stiff joints and arthritis and will definitely make your dog more comfortable. If you want an alternative there are several homeopathic medicines you can give your dog. Pain relief drops which are given orally are available for your dog and many owners prefer to give them as they are totally natural and very easy to give your dog at home.
Many dog owners have given their dog aspirin as they believe it has good effects for pain relief but this drug can have bad side effects and vets advise not to give it to your dog. If you notice your dog has any side effects while you are giving them any form of pain relief then you must contact your vet immediately. Even if you think that your dog is still in pain after you have given the pain relief, never increase the dose as this is dangerous to your dog.
If your vet refuses to administer pain relief for your dog then you can do other things to make its life more comfortable. Ensure that you keep the injured area warm and covered; you should wrap the area in a warm towel. Massaging the injured area on your dog will help soothe the pain he is feeling this will often calm your dog as well. You can only do so much and hope that your dog can recover from its injury, your love and treatments will help.

Very helpful Hub! Also if you try to hide any anxiety from the animal it will help because they feel stressed and panicked when you are. So show no anxiety and worry in front of them and you will be helping more than you know!
